Whether you are a child, a parent, a grandparent, an aunt, or an uncle, you are probably doing something different than those who came before you. Some people may say that what you are doing is wrong, or won’t work, but in reality, maybe it does work because research has been done, or the fact that times have changed and are continuing to change every day that goes by. Heck, even my siblings are doing things differently than I did, and it really wasn’t all that long ago that I was that age. Sometimes it’s easier to go with the flow of changes and learn your own way than it is to do what was strictly enforced or expected of you or your parents growing up.
What have I learned from my Mother?
I remember when I was younger, my mom would always tell me the different ways she was punished or disciplined as a kid. I always feared that was to be my consequence when I did wrong or misbehaved; thankfully, my parents didn’t do those same things. Before I get into anything, I want you to know that I am not blaming anyone, and I am not judging you or criticising any of your actions. I’m sharing facts and stories just like anyone else. Times have changed, like I said. Things were different then than they are now. It’s how the world is; it’s how times have affected us as human beings. What you did then may have been effective at the time. But it probably wouldn’t work in today’s world, at least not in my family. Which is okay! Accept the change the world is making, and move on. Either go and grow with the change by following it, or create your own change and move on, growing in that. Whatever works for you and your family.
