Have you ever said something and instantly gone quiet, fearing that little ears had heard you? Perhaps you were enjoying a random evening as a family, and your child comes up to you and says something completely out of the blue. Don’t worry, we’ve been there too!
Having our child repeat something we’ve said really makes us question what is being said in our household. Do we say things that are kind and respectful towards other people? Or do we shame and judge other people behind the closed doors of our home? We really try to be kind, loving, and honest people. Of course, we have our faults. Everyone does, but our words are one thing in this life that we can control. Our words matter, whether we see that or not. Are my words loving towards myself? Do our little girls hear us being confident and body-positive about ourselves, or do they hear the self-deprecating things we think about our own bodies? It makes me sad to think that our girls could hear me feeling sad about my body, and that’s not something I want them to ever feel for themselves.
