The Mom, Wife, Dream Life

  • If you still care about my blog, then this is for you…

Let’s dive back into 2023 for a moment. Just bear with me as I explain why this experience was so important to me.

What is General Conference and why is it so Important?

Over the weekend of September 30, 2023, my family and I had the opportunity to listen to and watch our church’s General Conference. It is a huge meeting/religious session where members of our church get together to hear the words of our Prophet and the other leaders of our church. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

During General Conference, there are a total of 5 sessions. There is a session on Saturday at 10 am-12 pm, another at 2 pm-4 pm, then an evening session that begins at 6 pm and is usually only about 70 minutes long. Then Sunday sessions follow the same 10 am-12 pm, and 2 pm-4 pm. Now, that may seem like a lot of church meetings within two days… you would be correct, it is a lot, but that doesn’t mean that it’s bad, it is very, very good! It can be overwhelming at times, but it can be super uplifting if you have the right mindset and desire to hear the words of God through his disciples.

My husband and I had the opportunity to attend the Saturday evening session together (in person rather than watching it online). It was a good little date night, but also a good chance to become more in tune with God and the Holy Ghost. It was thrilling, being able to see the beauty of the Conference Center, and hearing the impressive acoustics it could create.

How Does General Conference Help in My Life?

Over the past few days, probably more like weeks… I have been contemplating what I want to do with my life. What I mean by this is, what do I want to achieve? Do I have any goals? If so, what are they? Am I wasting my time going to school, or is it going to benefit me? Should I be working to help support my family, or is being a stay-at-home mom enough support? I deal with identity issues, it seems almost every single day.

I want to achieve greatness! I do have goals, some of which are to start and write a blog, film videos with my family to capture the memories, to start my own business both by myself and with my husband, and to graduate from school with a degree that will serve to be purposeful in this life for my family as well as myself. I don’t believe I am wasting my time going to school, but sometimes it is really hard to have the motivation to do it. It will benefit me if I allow it to!

Being a stay-at-home mom is working to support my family! I may not make the money, but I do most of the cleaning, most of the caregiving of our children, most of the dishes, laundry, etc. Yes, my sweet, sweet husband does help around the house and with our girls, too. We may have different responsibilities right now, but that doesn’t change the importance of them.

Have I not been living out my mom’s wife, dream life? I can tell you right now, yes. Yes, I have been thus far. But to be completely honest with you, some days I don’t feel like I am, and THAT IS OKAY! You don’t need to feel 100% all of the time, it is a completely normal part of life to feel bleh, to feel unmotivated, sad, alone, lost, and confused. But let me tell you something that I heard recently that has since struck me. This was a quote that was shared with us at General Conference.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together…” – Sister Tamara W. Runia

How Have I Applied this Quote to my Life?

I know that we can’t do anything by ourselves, which is why we have families, friends, and especially God. If you ever feel or think the same things that I have listed and shared, just know that it’s okay! I have been there, heck, I’m still there at times, but you are not alone.

If you ever need a friend to talk to, to hear you, or to simply know someone is here for you, you know where to find me!

Thank you for jumping back in time with me.

    Until next time.
